One morning on Holy Island – 8.30 am

One morning on Holy Island is a set of 5 images all taken on the morning of  Wednesday, November 24th, 2021.

No. 2 of 5 – 8.30 am, Sunrise on The Causeway

Holy Island is accessed by the Causeway, a long thin strip of road across a wide open bay. At high tide the road is covered by the North Sea cutting off the island from the mainland. Beside the road you can see a stilted refuge hut in case the tide comes in and catches you out (best make sure of the tide times before you set off). On the right hand side tall wooden posts mark St. Cuthbert’s Way which is still followed by many pilgrims to the island to this day.
